Design Challenge
Implementing New Features in a Legacy System
The existing platform infrastructure was outdated and lacked flexibility, making the integration of new features cumbersome. As a designer, I had to create an intuitive user experience while working within the system’s constraints. The challenge was to introduce features like advanced job search, career coaching, and profile enhancements while maintaining a seamless user experience.
Input: My role was to design scalable components that could evolve with the platform’s growth.
Limited User Engagement Due to Poor Information Architecture
The platform’s structure made it difficult for job seekers and employers to navigate efficiently. Key features like job recommendations, profile customisation, and career resources were buried under multiple layers. This led to a high drop-off rate and low engagement.
Input: I conducted extensive user research to identify the pain points and reorganised the navigation to create a more streamlined experience. By implementing a well-structured information hierarchy, I improved discoverability and accessibility for all user types.
Mobile Usability and Accessibility Issues
A significant percentage of users accessed Fuzu on mobile devices, yet the platform was not optimized for smaller screens. The UI components were not responsive, leading to frustrating interactions, especially during job applications.
Input: My focus was to create a mobile-first design approach, ensuring that all functionalities were accessible and easy to use. I introduced a more touch-friendly interface, optimized typography for readability, and ensured compliance with accessibility guidelines. This transformation greatly enhanced the mobile experience, making the platform more inclusive and user-friendly.
Fuzu lacked the ability to provide personalized career recommendations and tailored job searches. The absence of user-specific content resulted in a generic experience that failed to keep users engaged.
Input: My goal was to design a system that offered customized job listings, career coaching sessions, and learning resources based on user behavior and preferences. I worked on creating a dynamic dashboard that adapts to user needs, incorporating system suggestions and interactive career planning tools. This not only increased engagement but also improved user retention rates.
