Design Challenge

Defining the Core Features of the MVP

The challenge was to determine the essential functionalities that would deliver the most value to users while keeping the initial product lean. Printumo aimed to provide a seamless experience for customers to upload, customize, and order printed products.

Input: Through stakeholder discussions and competitor analysis, we identified the must-have features: a user-friendly customisation tool, a transparent pricing system, and a streamlined checkout process. By narrowing the scope, we ensured a focused and feasible MVP launch.

Designing an Intuitive Customisation Tool

A major differentiator for Printumo was its interactive product customisation feature, allowing users to personalise their orders before purchasing. However, designing an intuitive tool that catered to both beginners and professionals was a challenge.

Input: I conducted usability tests with potential customers to understand pain points in similar tools. I simplified the interface by offering guided steps, real-time previews, ensuring that users could easily create their designs without frustration.

Optimising for Mobile Usability

With a large portion of potential customers browsing on mobile devices, we needed to ensure that the customization and ordering process worked smoothly on smaller screens. The challenge was balancing complex design interactions with mobile responsiveness.

Input: I led a mobile-first design approach, ensuring touch-friendly elements, an easy navigation structure, and real-time adjustments for smaller screens. The result was a highly accessible mobile experience that increased user engagement.

Creating a Seamless Order Management System

Many users abandoned purchases due to lengthy or confusing checkout processes.

Input: My goal was to simplify order completion by integrating a one-page checkout, clear pricing breakdowns, and multiple payment options. Additionally, I designed an order tracking system that allowed users to monitor the status of their custom prints post-purchase. Through iterative user testing, I refined the checkout flow, reducing friction and increasing conversion rates.

Establishing a Unique and Cohesive Brand Identity

The challenge was in creating a simple and cohesive visual identity that aligns with the company’s values while being recognisable and distinguished from the competitors.

Input: As a designer, my role in the brand identity process involved extensive research, strategy, and creative execution to build a strong and recognisable brand. I  conducted brand discovery sessions to understand the company’s vision, values, and audience. I then develop mood boards, color palettes, typography systems, and logo concepts that reflect the brand’s essence.
